On the No Dealing Desk execution platform, regardless of your margin level—which can be set as low as 0.5% on Mini or 100K accounts—money will be added to your account when you have a positive roll. The high leverage available in forex trading can lead to large losses as well as gains.
A positive roll is interest earned on an open position when long the higher yielding currency overnight. In order to receive a positive roll, you must be long the currency paying the higher interest at 5:00 PM EST.
For example, you will earn a positive roll if you are long USD / JPY (the US dollar has a rate of 5.25% and the Japanese yen has a rate of 0.50%) or long NZD / USD (the New Zealand Dollar is currently at 7.25%). If you are short the currency paying the higher interest rate, you will have a negative roll.
